2024 Drawing Sketchbook Tour Part I
I remember always loving to draw. I loved coloring as a child and a fresh box of crayons or colored pencils, but really I was happy with any crafty supplies. I always loved art class, even in high school, where you can tell who really has talent and who is just trying to stay out of the teacher’s way. I still have some high school art pieces that I am really proud of. Despite having very creative people in my family, I never even considered that art would be something I would pursue after high school. It was fun, but it wasn’t something that you made a career out of, even my millennial education of “follow your passion” and “everybody gets a participation trophy” did not suggest that art was an appropriate pursuit long-term. So while I enjoyed drawing and have occasionally picked it up here and there, it has never stuck with me as a habit.

In 2024, I want to try and develop a drawing habit. Similar to the approach I am taking with my watercolor sketchbooks (you can read more about that in my last post), I am really just going for consistency. My drawings have been inspired by photos on my phone, occasional Instagram posts that have crossed my path and a few drawing prompts from the newsletter I get from the designer Sarah Watts. Most of these drawings were completed in 30 minutes or less and I have found that I really like to sketch in pencil and then add pen later on.
